Synopsis:

This event will provide an overview of current progress of Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) in the UK – covering projects that have reached financial close, as well as projects in planning and beyond 2030. Speakers will also discuss the role of CCUS in decarbonising many vital industrial sectors in the UK, such as steel, cement and energy from waste – as well as the different types of supportive revenue markets (low-carbon products market, carbon markets etc) and how these can be used to drive CCUS deployment in industrial sectors.

Chair:

Mark Sommerfeld, UK Director, CCSA.

Mark is UK Director of the Carbon Capture Storage Association. He leads efforts to advocate for a robust policy and regulatory framework to advance the UK’s carbon capture and storage (CCS) sector. With over a decade of experience in the energy and environmental sectors, Mark has worked closely with renewable energy developers, government ministers, civil servants, energy suppliers, grid operators, financiers, and traders. Before joining the CCSA, he worked as Deputy Director of Policy at the Association for Renewable Energy and Clean Technology (REA), where he championed renewable and clean technologies across power, heat, and transport. Notably this included leading policy initiatives for BECCS development in the biomass power, waste-to-energy, and anaerobic digestion sectors. Mark holds degrees from Cambridge University and the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
